Note: On all of these benchmarks, the higher is better except in case of Color Accuracy (Delta E ) column.
Note: Heavy use battery does not mean heavy gaming as with heavy gaming on battery alone, the fps could go down due to bios etc. settings plus the battery for almost any of these laptops will only last 2-3 hours max. Heavy use battery could include some light gaming but mostly browsing, maybe light video editing etc. or office etc. apps. Similarly for medium use of battery.
What factors to look for when buying a Gaming Laptop in the under $1000 range ?
The Base specs we prescribe for medium Gaming with medium settings, casual gaming
• 7 Gen i5 or i7 processor
• SSD is preferable but not critical
• 8 GB RAM. If you have a low budget you NEED NOT go for 16 MB RAM especially if the laptop allows easy RAM upgrade , which most of these do.
• 4GB – GTX 1050 / GTX 1050Ti / GTX1060 (GTX 960 M also works fine)
• Cooling Fans which work well (reviews should not indicate high overheating)
• Good IPS display with anti-glare.
Most of the above models satisfy these criterion – but you have to decide whether you are loooking for a multi-use laptop with occasional gaming or gaming focused laptop. Depending on that you can forgo features like extra storage or very high RAM for a higher end graphics card OR go in for a gaming focused laptop such as MSI GL62M .
Let us know your thoughts or which laptop you purchased finally. Happy Shopping !

Great List. Just wondering , what kind of frame rates are we looking at for the popular games in these Laptops ?
Hey Krish. good question. We’ve updated the post adding a benchmarks table at the end , we’ll keep updating as we get more information and feedback
Nice list. Which of the 2 MSI’s model would you say is better in graphics handling for games. I am ok with both monitor sizes.
Would you rate the Acer Nitro better over Acer Aspire VX 15 if the focus is gaming only ?
Yes, as you can see from the benchmarks as well as the specs, the Nitro has better specs, screen is brighter and more vivid and real colors. The graphics card is the same as such but Nitro is cheaper as well. Reviews also seem to be similar so if you can save money and get better or comparable performance, you may probably want to do that.
Quite a detailed Under $1000 gaming laptop list ! Now can we please have the MSI GL62M benchmarks as well…..thanks.
Sure Ryan, we’ve asked for them and will update them on the site as soon as they’re available.
